Nagardas is a wealthy businessman, who wants a “gharelu” wife for his son, a woman who will not oppose his authority. He is of the opinion that an educated woman is a threat to his authority and will signal the disintegration of traditional society.
Ironically his son Ninad falls in love with a doctor named Meghna. The couple is in a dilemma about convincing Ninad’s father for their marriage. Meghna’s Mama, comes to the rescue with his brilliant plan to portray Meghna what she isn’t, so that the couple can get married with the permission and blessing of the elders. Nagardas is under the impression that Meghna is demure, uneducated and obedient daughter-in-law to him. This deception leads to various comic and dramatic situations, which leads to confusion and finally the revelation of Meghna being educated and having a career.
MONGHIBEN M.B.B.S questions the tradition of keeping the girl child illiterate, and gives audiences a chance to think about the importance of education.
